Groom Faints at the Altar When He Sees His Bride: ‘My Body Was Tingling’

A Brazilian groom fainted at the altar in an emotional moment that has since captured hearts online, after becoming overwhelmed upon seeing his bride walk down the aisle.

Gustavo Schmitz, 25, a school teacher from the small town of Salete in southern Brazil, was preparing to marry his longtime partner, 23-year-old Pâmela Berto, in front of nearly 200 guests when the unexpected occurred.

According to Schmitz, the days leading up to the ceremony had been packed with last-minute planning, stress, and little sleep, leaving him physically and emotionally drained. But it was the moment he saw Berto in her wedding dress that pushed him over the edge.

“I started to feel weak, my body was tingling,” Schmitz told local media. “I even told the ushers that I was not feeling well, but they thought I was joking. Then, when Pâmela walked in, I was completely overcome.”

As the bride made her way down the aisle and joined Schmitz at the altar, the groom whispered to her that he wasn’t feeling well. Moments later, he collapsed onto her wedding gown, leaving the crowd in shock.

“I didn’t even realize I was falling,” he said. “It all happened so fast.”

The officiating pastor and several guests rushed to his side. One friend, who is a doctor, stepped in to administer first aid while the guests waited in silence. Schmitz briefly lost consciousness again before regaining his footing and insisting on continuing with the ceremony.

Despite the dramatic interruption, the couple exchanged vows and officially tied the knot. “In the end, it was all beautiful and unforgettable,” Schmitz said, adding that the incident only made the day more memorable.

Berto, who remained composed throughout the ordeal, later shared that she was initially startled but trusted the groom would be okay. “It was very emotional, but I’m proud of him for pushing through,” she said.
