A Denton police officer is being praised for her quick thinking and life-saving actions after using a LifeVac device to rescue two people from choking in separate incidents—one of them just this week.

The first dramatic rescue unfolded on the side of a Texas roadway, where the officer responded to an emergency call and found a man gasping for air, unable to speak. Bodycam footage shows her calmly instructing the man to lie down before she pulls out the LifeVac—a portable suction device designed to clear blocked airways.

“Get it out,” the man gasps as the officer springs into action. With one swift motion, the LifeVac removes the obstruction: the cap of a water bottle. The man begins to breathe again.

But this wasn’t the officer’s first time saving a life. Just months earlier, she used the same device at a senior living facility to rescue an elderly woman who was choking on steak during lunch. “I’m gonna get that steak outta your mouth,” she told the woman. After several attempts and steady reassurance, she successfully cleared the airway.

Both incidents highlight the effectiveness of the LifeVac device and the critical importance of training and fast response in choking emergencies.

“She didn’t panic, and she knew exactly what to do,” said one bystander. “She saved two lives. She’s a hero.”

The officer’s quick action and calm under pressure are earning her admiration throughout the community—and sparking renewed calls for more first responders to carry LifeVacs in the field.
