Fifteen years ago, a truly extraordinary set of triplets was born under heartbreaking circumstances — and today, their story is nothing short of inspiring.

Maisie, Mackenzie, and Madeline Garrison entered the world in December 2002. Uniquely, Maisie and Mackenzie were conjoined twins, fused at the abdomen and sharing a pair of legs, while their sister Madeline was born healthy and separate. Due to severe financial hardship, their biological mother was unable to care for them and gave them up for adoption shortly after birth.

Within weeks, Darla and Jeff Garrison — experienced foster parents from Iowa — welcomed the girls into their home. Already parents to three children, they felt called to provide love and stability to these special sisters. “We had no idea what to expect, but they only needed someone who loved them,” Darla recalled.

By 2003, doctors at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles performed a groundbreaking 24-hour surgery to separate the conjoined twins. The operation was a success. Though Maisie and Mackenzie each lost a leg, custom prosthetics and intensive physiotherapy have helped them achieve remarkable independence.

Two years later, Darla and Jeff officially adopted all three girls. Today, the family of eight lives on a farm in Iowa, where the triplets enjoy a full life — including their own horse and a close-knit school community. While Maisie and Mackenzie face challenges like scoliosis, their future is bright and filled with hope.

The Garrison family’s love turned tragedy into triumph, giving these girls not just a home, but a chance to thrive. Their journey reminds us of the power of compassion — and how a family’s love can truly transform lives.
