In a recent development that underscores the escalating tensions in Eastern Europe, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to retaliate against Ukraine following a significant drone attack on Russian airfields.

The revelation came after a 75-minute phone conversation between the two leaders, during which they discussed the recent Ukrainian drone strikes that reportedly destroyed or damaged approximately 40 Russian military aircraft. President Trump characterized the conversation as “a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace,” emphasizing Putin’s strong assertion that Russia “will have to respond” to the attacks.

The Ukrainian operation, dubbed “Operation Spiderweb,” marked one of the most extensive assaults on Russian military assets since the onset of the conflict. Utilizing drones, Ukraine targeted multiple airbases deep within Russian territory, causing substantial damage to Moscow’s strategic bomber fleet.

In response to the drone strikes, President Putin accused Ukraine of terrorism and indicated that Russia would take decisive action. He also dismissed the possibility of further peace talks, labeling Ukraine’s government as a “terrorist regime.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected Russia’s ceasefire proposal, describing it as an ultimatum and urging stronger international pressure on Moscow. Zelenskyy has called for an unconditional ceasefire and proposed a summit involving himself, President Putin, and potentially President Trump.

As the conflict continues, the international community watches closely, with diplomatic efforts ongoing but no substantive moves toward resolution. The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation if retaliatory actions are taken.
