Woman Adopted 3 Black Kids 10 Years Ago. You Won’t Believe How They Repaid Her

Sulphur, Oklahoma — What began as one woman’s act of love turned into a national movement of compassion, generosity, and gratitude. Ten years ago, Misty Robinson adopted three Black children from foster care. Today, one of them, Alaya Robinson, is repaying that love in a way no one saw coming—by changing lives across the country.

Alaya’s early childhood was marked by pain and instability. Born to a drug-addicted mother, she entered foster care as an infant and spent her first four years moving between homes. Despite being overlooked for adoption time and again, Alaya never gave up hope. Alongside her two younger siblings, she found solace in being their protector, their caretaker, and their constant source of warmth.
That all changed when Misty Robinson stepped into their lives. Misty adopted all three siblings, giving them not only a forever home but a new beginning. Though the transition wasn’t without its challenges, Misty’s love and unwavering belief in them created a safe space where the children could grow, heal, and thrive.
Alaya’s deep sense of gratitude and empathy began to show early. After noticing that her younger brother arrived with almost nothing to his name, she started thinking about how many other children might be suffering in silence. The spark of an idea ignited one summer day when she saw a group of teenagers selling lemonade to raise money for a quinceañera. Inspired, Alaya asked her mom if she could start a stand of her own.
That lemonade stand raised $132 in its first day. But Alaya didn’t use the money on toys or candy. Instead, she created “Love Packages” for foster children—backpacks filled with blankets, stuffed animals, Bibles, and hygiene items. What started as a small act of kindness quickly gained national attention. Her GoFundMe campaign raised over $6,000, and the story of her lemonade stand has been viewed more than 1.3 million times on YouTube.
Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Usher took notice, with Usher calling Alaya a “superhero” on Facebook. Donations and encouragement from strangers poured in, and Alaya stayed grounded in her mission—helping as many foster children as she could. She’s distributed more than 300 Love Packages, and her goal is to reach thousands more.
Misty Robinson once gave three children a second chance at life. A decade later, they’ve repaid her with the ultimate gift: becoming the kind of people who give back. For Misty, seeing her daughter turn childhood adversity into compassion is proof that love—when given selflessly—multiplies beyond measure.
